10 Effective ways to get rid of pet hair.
There are many innovative ways you can get rid of pet hair from your car, couch, floors … just about anywhere! Are you a pet owner with a long-haired dog or cat? Do you regularly clean up clumps of hair and dust that gather in the corners of your home? Do you have to vacuum more than once a week?
Here are some tips for getting rid of pet hair.
1. Get rid of pet hair on upholstery with a squeegee
You can remove pet hair from furniture and car seat upholstery with a spray bottle and squeegee.
Dampen the seats with water from the spray bottle, then scrape the hair away in one direction with the squeegee. The hair will build up into a clump as you scrape and remove it!
2. Lint brush or DIY lint roller
How do you DIY a link roller, you ask? Easy! If you have an old paint roller lying around, wrap ducts tape around it (sticky side up). Roll away over the loose hair! Simply reapply tape when your roll is full.
3. Remove hair with a rubber broom
Rubber brooms work great. The rubber bristles grab and trap gross pet hair off of hardwood floors, rugs, and carpets.
4. Microfiber dust mop
Don’t use a feather duster, it will just spread the hair around. Microfiber is extremely effective at picking up pet hair, dust, dander, and bacteria.
When you’re done mopping, just toss the cover or cloth in the washing machine.
TIP: Avoid using fabric softener in this load — it will reduce the “static-cling” power this special mop brings!
5. Rubber gloves
Rubber gloves work the same way rubber brooms do. The hair will cling to the rubber and right before your very eyes, you’ll have piles of pet hair!
Wipe the rug, carpet, or furniture with your hand, then pick up and toss the resulting clumps of dog hair or cat hair.
6. Vacuum cleaner
A good-working vacuum cleaner that is designed to handle pet hair is a must for any pet owner. There are a lot of companies out there that say they have the “best vacuum,” so you’ll have to do some research and evaluate if you have the budget for a high-end Dyson or another brand.
You also may want to invest in a robot pet hair vacuum. These are great for hard floors and are especially handy during shedding season.
7. Dry sponge
For upholstered furniture, a dry sponge (not a damp sponge) works great to gather and remove pet hair from all of those intricate fibers, and it won’t damage your fabric.
8. Washer
After you’ve cleaned your home, make sure to wash pet bedding/covers on the cold wash cycle — and do it often! This will help clean pet hair and prevent it from traveling throughout your home.
When drying, use dryer balls and/or dryer sheets to ensure any excess hair is trapped and off of your clean items. Don’t forget to clean out the lint trap!
9. Baking Soda
Vacuuming is an obvious solution to removing pet hair from carpets, but before you do, sprinkle a little baking soda on the area — this will help to loosen pet hairs AND eliminate odors; it’s a win-win.
10. Replace your filters
Another preventative measure to take to keep pet hair from spreading throughout your home is to have your air ducts cleaned and to regularly replace air filters. This is especially helpful if you suffer from allergies.
Bonus pet hair removal tip
If you have a dog with long hair or an undercoat, it’s important to brush them regularly. Going to the groomer on a regular basis will help minimize shedding in the long run.
In addition to dog grooming, you can get a pet-safe anti-static spray from Amazon or another retailer to control any unruly coats.
We hope you find these cleaning tips helpful! Good luck maintaining a hair-free home!
